Professional Background

Sam Marcus grew up around the world, living in India for two years and Panama for three years before settling back in the United States, where he has called five states and eight cities home. He earned his bachelor’s degree with a double major in Communication and Information Science from the University of Arizona.

Before joining GFIS, Sam spent five years in direct sales, work that taught him how to listen, build trust, and understand what people need, often before they’ve fully articulated it themselves. He transitioned into financial services to put those skills toward something more lasting: relationships and decisions that compound over decades, not days. Sam holds his Series 7 and Series 66 securities registrations along with his life and health insurance licenses.

Clients & Planning Philosophy

The financial decisions people make in their thirties and forties determine the income they can count on in their seventies. Sam has built his practice around both ends of that timeline, working with young professionals and growing families alongside people approaching or already in retirement, which gives him a rare view of how early choices play out over a lifetime.

He has developed a reputation for asking the right questions and listening before offering advice. Sam takes pride in building each plan around a client’s full picture: their goals, their concerns, and the lifestyle they want their money to make possible. His aim is to build a relationship that lasts through all phases of life.

Outside The Office

Sam lives in Arizona with his fiancée, Emma, and their two cats, Jimmy and Petunia. An early riser by necessity in the Valley heat, he starts most mornings training Olympic lifts and spends weekends hiking whenever he can. His love of cooking runs in the family. His mom spent time as a chef and instilled a passion for food and nutrition, and today he’s known as everyone’s favorite potluck invitation.
